Honeymoon Journal - Thirteenth Entry
Sunday evening and Monday in Birdsview and Seattle
6/12/02 9:47 PM Pacific Look at that. I skipped a day of writing in my journal. All I can do is plead to having a very full day yesterday. I'm going to try to zip through Sunday and Monday at one go. Sunday evening we took a walk around the b&b's grounds and then later drove back into Concrete for dinner, where we ate at a nice enough restaurant that we had practically to ourselves. On our walk we found our way down to the Skagit River and got a much better look at it. The water was beautiful and we really wanted to get in to it, but we didn't have our bathing suits or Aqua-socks. After dinner we went back to the Inn where we spent several hours sitting down in the living room reading (Lauren) and writing (me). I should note that there were two horses and a cat at the b&b. Lauren managed to make friends with the cat and at least one of the horses. Here are a couple of the pictures that she took. As the evening wore on we eventually retired to our room where we spent the night in this bed. The next morning we got up, showered and packed, and then went downstairs for breakfast. The meal started out with some awesome homemade raspberry yogurt and homemade raspberry muffins (still hot from the oven). To go with the yogurt we had granola (to mix together). That was all pretty great. Then out came the main dish. When asked yesterday if there was anything that we didn't like for breakfast I should have thought about the question more carefully. The dish was a vile and putrid concoction of scrambled eggs, scallions, cream cheese and salmon chunks. I managed to choke down enough of the eggs to not insult our hosts (I hope), but it was truly, truly noxious. We got out of there around 10:00 AM and proceeded to begin the drive down to the Seattle area. The drive was pretty nice, didn't take too long and entailed no undue problems. We got to Seattle much too early to check in to our hotel so we proceeded to find an AAA office where we could pick up detailed street maps of all the cities and areas we wanted to visit. Then we started looking at apartment complexes. On our list we had 12-14 places to check out, and we had divided them up into Monday and Tuesday. Well just on Monday alone we managed to look (or try to look) at all of them. There were three or four we couldn't find, but we saw at least four or five that hadn't been on our list but looked pretty nice. Then we went and checked into our hotel. Much to our surprise the hotel ended up having an internet connected computer in the lobby which allowed us to get information on the new places to help us to decide whether or not we wanted to look at them. That was very cool and saved us another visit to the library (where we had been earlier in the day). Later in the evening we went to the local mall for some light browsing and window shopping, and then out to dinner. By then it was getting pretty late so it was back to the hotel for some much needed rest. I should mention this now before I forget it. At the beginning of this honeymoon journal I mentioned that our rental car had only 5.4 miles on it. Well at this point it has just under 1,200 miles on the odometer. You really have to love rentals with unlimited mileage. Tomorrow on planes and waiting for them I ought to be able to get some more writing done.
